Drawings for a Monochromatic Kitchen
A stylish couple from Hexham are having a spectacular remodel of their home, so I was delighted when they asked me to prepare some ideas for their cutting edge kitchen. I worked with artisan cabinet maker, Reiner Stoeckle of R S Cabinet Makers Ltd to produce the drawings below.
The clients have oodles of vision and are keen for their kitchen to be dark, with light marbled work-tops (in a new product by Formica called Truescale, Calcutta Marble). I proposed the stunning Farrow and Ball's "Railings" colour after seeing how impressive it looks in a friend's kitchen in Jersey. We also opted for some antique brass handles and taps to add a warm and opulent feel. I thought that the cup handles would be offset well with contrasting pole-like pulls on the fridge-freezer and full height pull-outs. The monochromatic look will be framed with white metro tiles and further softened by engineered oak flooring which will step down into a bright family area with large southerly facing crittal windows leading into their garden.
Walls have been knocked down and plans are cruising ahead for this remodel to work intelligently with their lifestyles: hidden doors will be included and I am excited about the end product. Watch this space!
